More about La Lancha

La Lancha is an exposed point break offering both left and right-hand waves over rock and coral reef. The left side tends to be steeper and faster, while the right offers longer, more mellow rides suitable for beginners and longboarders. Wave quality peaks from November through March when consistent north-northwest and west-northwest swells wrap around Punta Mita, combined with reliable offshore winds from the north and northeast. The break works across all tidal stages, though lower tide reveals the rock hazards more dramatically, while higher water allows riders to use the shallower point sections more safely. This is the most consistent and forgiving break in the Punta Mita region, accessible to surfers from complete beginners through advanced riders.

The 7 to 15-minute walk from the parking area at Punta de Mita's main street passes through a natural jungle trail that remains navigable during the dry season but becomes muddy with water crossings during rainy months. Visitors can access parking near the gas station and Oxxo convenience store where local shops rent boards. The beach itself is relatively quiet and rarely crowded, though it is backed by private property and localism is reported as a concern. Hazards include sea urchins in shallow water and exposed rocks, particularly at lower tides.
