More about La Bocana

La Bocana sits at the mouth of Laguna la Bocana, where a broad sandbar meets the Pacific. The break works as a shifting sand point with both left and right-hand peaks—the sandbars move enough to change character between sessions. The north end holds a more consistent left. Like most sandbar breaks, it responds to all tide levels, though the best combo is south-southwest groundswell with northeast offshore wind, typically during autumn months with August being the peak window. Hazards include strong rip currents and, less frequently, sharks. Water here runs coolest around late March (16–20°C) and warmest in early September (22–28°C). Despite being only eleven miles from Punta Abreojos, La Bocana stays relatively quiet and doesn't draw the same attention as other Baja breaks.
