K-38 is actually a cluster of four distinct breaks—The Point, The Left, Maria's, and Theresa's—each suited to different skill levels. The Point produces the longest rides, peeling right-handers that can stretch over 200 yards on good days with a bowly, punchy take-off. Maria's is mellow and beginner-friendly. Theresa's (also called El Morro) is fast and demanding, mostly a shortboard wave that handles up to double overhead. All sections break over a rocky reef that delivers barrels when swell reaches around seven feet and the tide cooperates.

K-38 has been a well-established Baja destination for decades, with dedicated infrastructure including surf shops, a motel, and live Surfline cameras—hallmarks of a spot that built itself into the regional scene through steady popularity rather than flash or competition fame.

Access is straightforward: just 25 miles south of Rosarito at the kilometer-38 highway marker. Parking areas exist near the breaks, though vehicle theft is a real concern—use gated hotel parking when possible. Booties are essential because of the sharp rocks; sea urchins are an ankle hazard, especially at lower tides. The spot attracts weekend crowds, particularly from San Diego. Water quality can suffer after heavy rain or when sewage enters the water, and petty theft happens regularly.
