More about Jordan River

Jordan River is a point break over a rocky and sandy bottom capable of producing very long rides, often 150 to 300 meters or longer. Barrels form regularly over the rock-sand mix, particularly at a section called The Point. The break works at all tide stages and responds well to both wind and groundswell from the west, though conditions are cleanest with north-northeast offshore winds. Autumn and winter, especially October through April, bring the most consistent and powerful swell. Water temperatures range from around 6°C in winter to 14°C in summer, requiring a wetsuit year-round. The break accommodates all skill levels, though stronger swimmers fare better given the power and long paddling distances.

Jordan River sits on the far western coast of Vancouver Island between Sooke and Port Renfrew, accessible via Highway 14 roughly an hour from Victoria. The area has a long association with surfing, with a dedicated local community organized around the West Coast Surfing Association. The locals are notably protective and territorial—dropping in on established surfers risks serious conflict, as the core group has defined the lineup for decades.
