More about Ibii
Ibii is a sandy beach break where gentle, rolling waves peel both left and right as A-frames, typically in the waist-to-chest range. West winds produce ideal offshore conditions, while low to medium tide stages deliver the most defined wave shape. The spot receives consistent swell from the south and southeast, with the largest and most powerful waves arriving during the typhoon season from August through October. Outside these months, smaller but regular waves maintain the break's reputation as one of the region's most approachable learning environments.
Ibii is situated on the scenic Nichinan Coast south of Miyazaki City, a region dominated by volcanic rock formations and steep mountains overlooking the water. The beach is reached via a 90-minute drive south from Miyazaki Airport, with straightforward parking and beach access. Because Ibii occupies a sandy section of coastline rather than the jagged reef zones found elsewhere along Nichinan, it avoids the sharp rocks and sea urchins present at nearby breaks, though surfers should remain aware of potential rip currents during certain conditions.
