More about Hvide Sande

Hvide Sande is a beach break sitting on a narrow strip of land between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord. The waves come primarily from northwesterly swells and perform best with offshore wind from the east. Mid to high tide provides the most consistent shape. The break works across a wide range of swell sizes, with soft waves during smaller conditions and more powerful shape in autumn and winter swells. Weekdays typically see light crowds, though it can fill on weekends with swimmers and other beachgoers, particularly in shallow sections.

The spot has hosted significant international competitions in recent decades, including European SUP championships and windsurfing world championships. Denmark's modern surfing movement began formally in 1995, and Hvide Sande emerged as one of the country's key training grounds for a new generation of local surfers. The town's consistent North Sea exposure has made it a hub for both wind and wave sports throughout the 2010s and 2020s.

Access is straightforward with public parking and a 15–30 minute walk to the break. The main hazards beyond typical rip currents and shore dumping are the fishing nets and buoys that line the area, reflecting the town's working harbor activity. The fjord side offers protected conditions for beginners, while the open ocean break suits more experienced surfers seeking bigger walls during winter.
