More about Hundested strand

Hundested strand is a modest beach break on Zealand's north coast that produces waves up to 1.5 meters, with both left and right-hand peaks over sand. It requires strong northerly or northeasterly winds sustained over several hours to generate rideable conditions, and works year-round though the water stays cold outside April through November.

Hundested lies within the Kattegat region where Danish surfing began in earnest during the mid-1980s when pioneers like Rolf Erikson started exploring these cold northern waters. While the area lacks a significant documented competition history compared to spots like Klitmøller, it has remained a consistent, low-key part of the Danish surfing landscape and today functions more as a windsurfing and kitesurfing hub than a dedicated wave-riding destination.

Located directly at Hundested Harbour with basic infrastructure including showers and facilities, the break is accessible by train via Hundested station with a short walk to the beach, or by rail to Hundested Havn for closer access. Lynæs Surfcenter in the area rents equipment and offers lessons. The dominant leftward current toward deeper water and fjord traffic remains a genuine hazard; parking is available near the harbour at 15 DKK per hour during the March–October season.
