More about Horseshoe

Horseshoe is a demanding reef break producing hollow, heavily weighted waves with steep takeoffs that pitch spitting barrels over a sharp, shallow reef. The lefthander is the primary draw, featuring a sharp drop that offers little room for mistakes, though a more open-faced right appears occasionally. Best conditions align with west groundswells, easterly offshore winds, and mid-tide when rising; the break becomes extremely shallow and dangerous at low tide, with only a couple of feet of water possible over the reef in places.

Access to Horseshoe requires finding an unmarked walkway between apartment buildings 100 and 202 on Coast Boulevard near Prospect Street—the entry point is deliberately obscure and adds to the break's remote character.
