More about Hallows
Hallows is a right-hand reef break that produces hollow, barreling waves breaking over coral and sharp reef with exposed rocks. The wave runs long, reaching up to 100 meters, and performs best on northeast or east swells between head-high and triple overhead. South winds provide the most favorable conditions, with low to mid tide offering the cleanest shape. This is clearly an advanced break requiring experience with reef hazards and powerful hollow sections.
Puerto Rico's northwest coast, where Hallows sits, has been a recognized destination in the global surf world for decades, sharing the region with other well-known breaks like Gas Chambers and Tres Palmas. While Hallows does not appear to be as prominent in major competition circuits or surf media as some neighboring spots, it remains an established part of the local and visiting surfer community in Arecibo.
The break is located in Garrochales near Arecibo on the north coast, roughly removed from immediate highway access but accessible to those familiar with the area. Other breaks in the immediate vicinity—El Momo, Las Arenas, Punto de Panico, and Mingo's Wedge—allow surfers to check alternative peaks if Hallows is not performing.
