More about Green Island

Green Island is a left-hand reef break that stands out for its extended, fast-breaking rides reaching 40-50 metres through the barrel zone. The wave develops best during winter months—July in particular—when south to southeasterly groundswells meet northwesterly offshore winds. Peak swell size runs between 3-5 feet at the low end to over 12 feet during strong southern weather systems. The wave character is fast and hollow, requiring mid to rising tide for optimal shape; while it accepts swell across all tidal stages, this timing gives the cleanest drains.

The break sits on a small rocky offshore island accessible by foot at low to mid-tide from Cunjurong Point. Parking is available at cliff-top car parks above the point and on Ottawa Street, which also has public facilities. Several walking tracks descend from Cunjurong village to the beach; alternative access runs from the nearby hamlet of Manyana. Strong currents flow through the zone and require local knowledge and caution.
