More about Grand Drewin

Grand Drewin is a right-hand reef break that consistently produces peaky, well-defined waves suitable for intermediate surfers. The break performs best during southern groundswells paired with north-northwest wind, which creates clean conditions across all tidal stages. The reef is rocky with jagged sections that pose hazards during wipeouts, and the remote fishing village location means occasional shark sightings, particularly in deeper water away from shore.

The spot gained attention among West African surfers after international explorers documented Ivory Coast's coastline in the 1970s, though Grand Drewin itself remained relatively undiscovered until regional competition circuits began featuring it in recent years. The area experiences particularly organized, glassy waves during the November-to-March Harmattan wind season, when warm tropical waters around 28°C attract visiting surfers seeking uncrowded, predictable tubes.

Access is via an unmarked dirt track in fair condition near the Ecosurf camp, leading to the small fishing village of Drewin approximately 12 kilometers south of Sassandra town and roughly 210 kilometers west of Abidjan. The proximity of Sassandra Airport, just 2.6 kilometers away, makes the spot accessible for visiting surfers, though the basic infrastructure reflects its status as an active fishing community rather than a tourist destination.
