More about Goldenwest
Goldenwest is a true A-frame that often delivers more closeouts than the nearby Huntington Beach Pier, despite breaking over similar sand. The best sessions arrive on W and SW swells meeting light offshore winds in the summer and fall mornings, typically at low to mid tide. Winter brings larger, longer-period swell that fills in more size, and the break handles overhead surf better than its summer countpart. Size generally maxes out around head-high in good conditions, making it accessible to intermediate surfers but less forgiving than peeling beach breaks elsewhere in the area.
No significant surf history, competitions, or notable sessions could be found in available sources for Goldenwest specifically. It has existed as a secondary break to Huntington Beach Pier, valued primarily as a less-crowded alternative when the pier is packed.
Access is via 22nd Street in Huntington Beach. Metered parking is available along Pacific Coast Highway, with a dedicated blufftop lot between Goldenwest and Seapoint streets. The area has a history of ground subsidence, which is worth noting given the long-term coastal stability of the beach itself.
