More about Gold Bluffs Beach

Gold Bluffs Beach is an exposed sand beach break with fairly consistent groundswell action, producing waves that break predominantly to the right. The best conditions arrive on west-southwest swell combined with east winds, peaking during high tide as it rises. Winter months offer the most reliable surfing, with January typically providing the most consistent rideable waves, though conditions can be blown out roughly a third of the time. The break rarely draws crowds.

Located within Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Gold Bluffs is accessed via unpaved Davison Road, a narrow four-mile route west from Highway 101, roughly three miles north of Orick. The road prohibits trailers of any kind. An onsite campground offers 26 single-family campsites with amenities including showers and potable water, with day-use access available; summer visits (May 15 through September 15) require advance reservation.
