More about Foxos
Foxos is a 350-meter sandy beach that handles Atlantic swells more effectively than its neighbor Lanzada, often picking up double the wave height during consistent winter swells. The break responds best to north and northwest swell directions paired with northeasterly winds, working most reliably at mid-tide when the steep beach profile allows better wave formation. While it frequently closes out, Atlantic storms between September and February occasionally produce clean, fast-breaking lefts peeling off the southern rocks when swell reaches 5-8 feet, though the sandy seabed shifts seasonally and conditions remain unpredictable even in promising forecasts.
Sanxenxo developed into Galicia's primary surf tourism center during the 1960s onward, with Foxos becoming one of its established breaks alongside the more beginner-friendly Lanzada. The spot remains accessible to all skill levels, though its moody character—constant seabed changes, variable tide sensitivity, and seasonal crowding from summer surf schools—makes it less consistent than it appears on forecast models.
Foxos sits in the parish of Noalla with direct parking, summer lifeguards, showers, and beachfront bars. The beach holds a blue flag in summer and draws families and tourists rather than dedicated lineups, particularly in peak season when instruction groups occupy the shore.
