More about Fox Hill

Fox Hill is a rock-bottomed point break that stands as one of New England's premier waves, offering three distinct take-off zones that skilled surfers can link together across rides stretching up to 400 yards. The wave features hollow sections interspersed with open faces for maneuvers, and can absorb swell with little loss of shape as size increases, with offshore winds from the west and southeast swell providing ideal conditions. The break transforms with tide changes—at low water it presents a more powerful, faster shape, while high tide generates a separate peak off the top of the point favored by longer riders.

Fox Hill has been a noted local spot in New Hampshire's established surf community, competing in 1988 when the region experienced exceptionally large Atlantic swell. Access requires dealing with a persistent local crowd and navigating around submerged rocks and boulders that create genuine hazard at higher energy.

Water temperatures drop well below freezing from fall through spring, typically around 6.6 degrees Celsius in winter months, making heavy neoprene including a hooded suit, gloves, and boots non-negotiable. The break sits across the bay from Rye on the Rocks and is best approached during summer months, particularly August when consistent swells meet more manageable water temperatures.
