More about Four Mile

Four Mile is a right-hand reef-point break located four miles north of Santa Cruz near Davenport, producing long rights that run toward the beach on larger swells. It responds well to west and northwest swells of 10 feet and above, with northeast wind providing the best conditions and protection from northwesterly onshore flow. The break is typically ridden at low to medium-low tide and picks up noticeably more swell than Santa Cruz's central breaks, making it a magnet for local intermediate and experienced surfers. The wave faces regular closeout conditions in light wind and draws substantial crowds during good swells.

Access involves rough or limited roadside parking along Highway 1, with an approximately 10 to 15 minute walk to the water over generally flat terrain. Parking and facilities improvements are underway as part of the North Coast Rail Trail project, which will eventually add paved lots and restrooms.
