More about Flynn's Beach

Flynn's Beach is a 500-metre sandy beach break protected by rocky headlands at each end, located three to five kilometres south of Port Macquarie. It works best with southeast swell and an offshore wind from the west-southwest, with conditions favoring mid tide. The beach breaks regularly but often lacks significant power, making it genuinely suited to beginners and learners though rips and rocks present typical hazards. Rocky outcrops at the headlands add character to the break, and the area has historically been known for shark activity.

The beach has a documented history of surfing competition dating to 1960, when the first Port Macquarie surf contest took place there—won by John Holmes. The Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club established its clubhouse nearby in 1956, and the beach became a hub for the region's early surf culture. Notable club competitors like Fred Middleton emerged in the 1960s, and the area's role in regional surf heritage was formalized when Port Macquarie developed a Surfing Museum in 2018.

Parking is available off Pacific Drive adjacent to the Surf Life Saving Club, with accessible parking bays near the clubhouse. The beach sits at 22 Ocean St and is integrated into Port Macquarie's coastal walkway system, giving it easy town access and amenities including lifeguards, facilities, and a surf club kiosk.
