More about Flume
Flume is a beach break offering waves to both sides that work across the tidal range. The break features reef and rock formations that provide structure, with typical wave heights averaging under half a metre in standard conditions. Southeast swells combined with offshore winds from the north-northeast produce the most consistent rideable conditions, particularly during winter months.
Strong rips are a notable hazard at Flume, with multiple rip channels documented in the area, particularly near the surf club where the bottom drops quickly. A life-saving club has documented close to 20 rescues in this zone, and warning signs at both the beach steps and car park explicitly flag rips and strong currents as present hazards.
Flume is accessed via a car park on Spray Street facing Lady Bay, with additional beach entry possible from Merri Street. The spot is about one kilometre from central Warrnambool and is managed as part of Warrnambool Beach.
