More about Flø
Flø is a reef break with a boulder-studded bottom located roughly thirty minutes from Ulsteinvik. The waves form as right and left-handers that require care navigating the rocky features underwater. It works on both northwest and other swell directions, with northwest swell and east-southeast winds producing the cleanest conditions. The break begins firing around 2 to 2.5 meters of swell and can hold waves exceeding 4 meters, though it remains a fairly exposed spot that doesn't work consistently throughout the year.
Winter months, particularly December, offer the most reliable conditions, though even then clean surfable waves appear only around 13% of the time due to frequent wind disruptions. Water temperatures are cold, typically around 10°C, requiring thick winter wetsuits, hoods, gloves, and boots. The break draws few surfers even when conditions align, remaining uncrowded throughout the year.
