More about Ervika
Ervika is an exposed point break in a sandy bay at the northwestern tip of the Stadlandet peninsula. The main wave is a right-hander breaking over rocks at the northern end of the bay, though peaky beach break conditions develop in small to medium swells across the shifty sandbanks. The break works year-round but delivers most consistent and cleanest conditions during winter months, particularly January, when northwest swell combines with southeast wind, with low tide producing the best shape.
Surfing in Norway began in 1963 when sailors brought the sport from Australia, and Ervika has since become one of the country's most established spots. The area has hosted XWave/Norgescupen national circuit competitions, and a local surfshop offers lessons and supports the community. The spot remains relatively uncrowded.
Ervik sits at the outer edge of Stadlandet, roughly 30 kilometers northwest of Selje. Access is straightforward with a public bus route (164) running to Årvik and parking available near the beach. A campsite and basic facilities are nearby. The location is historically significant as the site of a memorial chapel commemorating the Sanct Svithun, a coastal express steamer bombed by Allied aircraft in 1943 with over 50 lives lost; the ship's remains lie offshore as a submerged hazard, though local sources indicate the wreck itself creates navigational features surfers are aware of rather than a major active danger.
