More about Ereaga
Ereaga is a sheltered urban beach break in Getxo with short, A-frame waves that work best at high tide with northwest swell of at least two meters. The main peak is a section locals call los bloques, near the southern breakwater, where powerful lefts and solid rights can develop when conditions align. The beach needs a blend of northwest swell and southeast wind to produce quality tubes; winter offers the most consistent window. Waves can reach three meters on the best days.
The spot has hosted competitions through the Basque Surfing Federation and has become established enough to appear regularly in regional surf guides, though it lacks historical significance compared to nearby breaks. It functions primarily as the urban alternative when other nearby beaches turn choppy.
Access is straightforward from Getxo town, with 800 meters of fine sand backed by showers, parking, and local restaurants. Crowding is common when swell arrives. Watch for rips, particularly in winter months, and be aware of rocks at the breakwater end. Water quality can be compromised at times due to the estuary proximity.
