More about El Rincon

El Rincon works consistently through the southern summer (June–August), when south swells arrive with offshore winds from the west-southwest. The ground swells that feed it are more reliable than wind-generated waves, and the break handles small to moderate surf sizes; the spot is sheltered and has a predictable character compared to more exposed Baja locations. However, it's selective about when it produces clean, rideable waves—the window of genuinely surfable conditions is narrow even during the peak season. The isolated location means light crowds, which makes the relatively modest wave quality more appealing for those seeking solitude.

El Rincon sits about 11 kilometers south of Cabo Pulmo along the East Cape, accessible by driving north from San José del Cabo on Highway 1 and then taking a dirt road that becomes progressively remote in the final stretch. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is advisable, especially during rainy season when the road deteriorates. The beach begins at a small hotel also called El Rincon and runs south for several miles; basic facilities are available at the resort. The regional waters (the Sea of Cortez side of the Cape) can have rip currents despite looking calm, so local knowledge is valuable for safety.
