More about El Pimental
El Pimental is a sandy beach break with both left and right-hand peaks that works best in the two to five-foot range, closing out on larger swells. The waves are fast and peaky with frequent tubes, making it a good practice ground for intermediate surfers. It produces consistent surf throughout the year with no seasonal dead periods, though morning conditions are cleanest—winds turn onshore and create chop by late morning, typically after 11 a.m.
The spot has developed quietly over the years as part of El Salvador's lesser-known beach break circuit. Unlike nearby El Sunzal and Punta Roca, which gained early recognition in the 1970s, El Pimental remains relatively uncrowded and undocumented in surf history records. The beach break's broad sandy bottom allows it to absorb crowds without generating the territorial tensions found at point breaks.
El Pimental sits in San Luis Talpa, about 45 minutes from San Salvador and roughly 25 minutes from the international airport. Access involves driving the airport highway toward the capital, then diverting to San Luis Talpa and following the road to its end, where Hotel Rancho Estero y Mar serves as a landmark. Parking is available nearby, typically with a small fee, and security is generally better at the hotel lot than informal spots.
