More about El Lloret

El Lloret is a right-hand reef break in Las Palmas that runs over a volcanic rock bottom with a steep, powerful wall. It produces medium-length waves with large faces that barrel for extended sections before spitting riders into a channel. The break requires minimum 1.5 meters of swell to start working and can handle up to 4 meters, with optimal conditions at low or mid tide under north to northwest swell and southern winds. Waves typically run fast and steep on these swell directions, favoring shortboarders with experience navigating reef breaks. The spot works reasonably at all tide stages, though low tide brings the most defined shape.

El Lloret has hosted notable SUP surf competitions as part of the Gran Canaria Pro-AM series, organized by windsurfing legend Bjoern Dunkerbeck. The event began in 2018 and ran through 2019 before pausing during the pandemic. The break was later revived as a venue for APP World Tour events, including the Mundial de Paddle Surf competition held in 2024.

Access from Las Palmas city center is straightforward via a connecting promenade, making it one of the city's most accessible reef breaks. The spot draws locals and visiting surfers, with parking, shops, and restaurants nearby. The area sees consistent use for various water sports including SUP and bodyboarding. The break sees regular swell activity from late September through early spring, with December typically offering the most consistent quality conditions. Best swell direction ranges from north to northwest, and the break works reliably between October and May.
