More about El Cardon

El Cardon is a right-point break that produces rippable waves for up to 100 meters along its course. The wave works only on larger west or northwest swells and gets good between waist-high and double overhead, suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers. The break runs over a rock foundation that transitions to sand, peeling off extended rides on clean winter groundswells. Northeast winds provide offshore cleaning conditions.

El Cardon forms part of the Seven Sisters, a series of renowned right-point breaks along Baja's Pacific coast that have been established as a classic big-wave destination. Winter swells bring the most consistent activity here. The spot is known for attracting surfers willing to make the remote journey for uncrowded, powerful waves in one of Baja's most isolated regions.

Access requires a four-wheel drive vehicle in good condition, plenty of fuel and water, and what local sources describe as "a healthy sense of adventure." The location sits south of Punta Maria with no services or infrastructure within significant distance. The drive is notoriously rough and demanding, with the reward being almost complete isolation in the desert meeting the Pacific. Santa Rosalillita serves as the nearest town for resupply.
