More about El Anclote

El Anclote is a point break that peaks over a rounded rock reef, producing extended right-hand rides that commonly exceed 500 meters. Southwest groundswells provide the most consistent energy, with north-northwest offshore winds offering ideal conditions. The wave is notably forgiving with a mellow, uniform pitch, making it well-suited to beginners and longboarders; however, the reef becomes exposed and hazardous during low tide. Mid to high tides generally offer the most accessible paddling and cleaner wave faces.

El Anclote has hosted formal longboard competitions including the "One Keel Away" El Anclote Punta de Mita Classic held in 2021, which connected winners to the Mexi Log Fest—one of Mexico's premier traditional longboarding events. The beach has long served as the region's primary instructional venue, with multiple surf schools and rental operators based there.

Access is straightforward: the beach lies at the west end of Avenida El Anclote in Punta de Mita, roughly 40 minutes from Puerto Vallarta by car. Paid parking is available near the main entrance (with limited capacity) and street parking exists nearby; additional parking is accessible across the street at Hotel La Quinta Del Sol via stairs. As a public beach with no entrance fee, El Anclote offers restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and rental gear including lounge chairs and umbrellas. Multiple restaurants and bars border the beach.
