More about Eastbourne
Eastbourne is a sheltered beach break that works sporadically due to its position up the Channel, where clean groundswell rarely reaches. The shingle-and-sand bottom produces peaks on both sides of the break, performing best in autumn and winter on mid tide with southwest swell and north or northeast offshore winds. When local storms push strong southwesterly winds across the water, messy but surfable windswell conditions can develop.
The break does not feature prominently in documented surf history or regional surfing narratives. It appears to have been surfed locally without generating significant historical documentation or notable competitions.
Eastbourne's seafront is an urban, accessible stretch with a promenade leading to sloped beach access points and abundant free or low-cost parking nearby. The shingle foreshore can be slippery when wet, and the regular wooden groynes that run perpendicular to the shore create hazards both in and out of the water.
