More about Dumps
Dumps is a fast-breaking lefthand reef point that generates barrel sections when South-Southwest swell reaches moderate to large heights, though it becomes notably slower and fatter on smaller waves. Best conditions occur with offshore East-Northeast wind, and summer months—particularly June—offer the most consistent opportunities. The break is exposed and demands advanced skills, with a sharp reef and a reputation for a local-only lineup atmosphere.
Access to Dumps is via the gravel parking lot at La Perouse Bay at the end of Makena Alanui Road, roughly three miles past Makena State Park. The walk down passes through the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve and emerges on a rocky shoreline with a small sandy approach area. Entry requires negotiating sharp reef, and both entry and exit can be difficult during high swell or strong winds.
