Dossen

Dossen is a sandy beach break stretching about 1.5 kilometres, oriented to capture Atlantic swell year-round and delivering consistent peaks across lefts and rights. Best results come with northwest-to-westerly swell combined with southeast offshore winds, typically peaking in winter around February. The beach functions best from mid-rising tide through high tide, when waves form cleanly on the sand. Wave size ranges from small ripples to over three metres in autumn and winter swells, making it accessible to beginners in modest conditions but demanding for intermediate surfers when the Atlantic fires. At low tide, rocks emerge on the northern end, so the central sandy zone is where most surfers position themselves; additionally, the left side of the beach carries rip currents that require awareness, and seaweed accumulates during low and mid-tide periods.

The spot has established itself as one of northern Finistère's main wave venues, now home to Dossen Surf School—which claims over two decades of teaching experience—and the Norzh Léon Surf Club, which runs competitions affiliated with the French Surf Federation from departmental to national levels. The beach sits within view of the Île de Sieck, backed by a 97-hectare protected coastal forest, and offers a genuinely uncrowded experience despite its reputation, particularly outside peak holiday seasons.

Access is straightforward: the beach has ample complimentary parking, public facilities including toilets and showers, and nearby bars and restaurants. The town of Santec is close by, with accommodation options ranging from rentals to hotels within sight of the beach.
