More about Dimas Rivermouth
Dimas Rivermouth is an exposed beach break south of Patoles that produces both left and right-hand waves. It breaks consistently year-round on southwest groundswell, with east-northeast wind providing the best offshore conditions. The break works across all stages of the tide, with summer months—particularly August—offering the most reliable clean conditions. It accommodates varying skill levels depending on swell size.
Submerged rocks present the primary hazard at this spot, along with typical Pacific coastal risks including rip currents and the deep-sea swell phenomenon known locally as mar de fondo. Water temperature ranges from 75–85°F between May and November, eliminating the need for wetsuits during these months, though a spring suit or vest may help in April.
Access requires a vehicle and roughly two hours of driving south from Mazatlán. General Rafael Buelna International Airport, approximately 45 miles from the break, serves as the primary entry point. Road conditions can deteriorate during and after heavy rain in the rainy season, making mid-August travel uncertain despite it being the peak season for clean waves. The break has no on-site facilities, so bring your own water and supplies. La Cruz, situated roughly 15 kilometers north, offers lodging and services as a base to avoid daily toll expenses.
