More about Devil's rock
Devil's Rock is a sand-bottomed beach break extending over 100 meters with multiple peaks producing both left and right-hand waves. The break reliably holds waves between one and two meters, though it can handle larger swells up to double overhead in ideal conditions. Scattered rocks emerge at low tide and occasionally beneath the sand during different swell periods, requiring awareness while paddling. The beach's gentle nature and consistent shape make it equally welcoming to beginners learning fundamentals and intermediate surfers refining technique, though it lacks the power for advanced big-wave riding.
Northwest swell combined with northeast winds produces the most favorable conditions, typically occurring during the winter months. Mid-tide offers the optimal paddling and breaking characteristics, though the break remains functional across most tide cycles.
The spot sits near the southern edge of Morocco's established surf region, which international surfers began exploring in the 1960s and 70s. Taghazout, a few kilometers north, developed into the country's primary surf hub over subsequent decades, while Tamraght has emerged as a secondary center where local progression is particularly visible—notably through female surfers who have achieved national championship titles.
Devil's Rock sits roughly 14 kilometers south of Agadir and can be accessed on foot from Tamraght or nearby Aourir. Parking is available on the hillside above the beach, where cafes and restaurants provide convenient services. The break typically experiences less crowding than major Taghazout spots despite its popularity and accessibility. Hazards during heavy winter swells include rip currents and powerful shore breaks; low-tide sessions require attention to exposed rocks.
