More about DeHaven Creek

DeHaven Creek is an exposed beach break with both left and right hand waves that form over a rock and sand bottom. The break handles a wide range of swell sizes, offering waist-high waves at its smallest and building toward double overhead in bigger swells. The break suits surfers across skill levels, with notably mellow character in smaller, clean conditions that welcome beginners, though it can get crowded when the surf picks up. Hazards include sharks, strong rip currents, scattered rocks, and an active local crew.

Access is via a trail descending from Westport-Union Landing State Beach, which requires crossing a small creek bed that is relatively easy to ford in summer but wetly challenging in winter. Free parking with limited spaces is available at the park entrance near Highway 1, located about 1.8 miles north of Westport and roughly 17 miles north of Fort Bragg. The beach extends northward to adjacent Wages Creek Beach at high tide and offers tidepooling and coastal hiking opportunities alongside the break.
