More about Currumbin
Currumbin is a right-hand point break at the mouth of Currumbin Creek, with the wave wrapping around the point over sand and rock. It picks up groundswell from the east most reliably and maintains consistent shape across tide ranges, making it a dependable option even on smaller swells. The break suits all skill levels and is favored by longboarders; offshore winds from the southwest provide ideal conditions, particularly during the winter months when south-east exposure produces the most favorable swell window.
The spot developed into a key training ground on the Gold Coast during the 1960s and 1970s as the region emerged as an international surf destination. The nearby Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club achieved prominence during that era, and the area remains anchored by SurfWorld Gold Coast, a museum housing one of Australia's largest collections of surfing history including boards, trophies, and documentation.
Currumbin sits on the southern Gold Coast, accessible via Pacific Motorway exit 95 leading to Gold Coast Highway and Tomewin Street. Abundant free parking is available at the Currumbin Alley car park and along Pacific Parade, though capacity fills quickly during peak times. The break sits adjacent to landmark rock formations and lifeguard-patrolled beaches.
