More about Crescent Head

Crescent Head is a right-hand point break that holds its shape across a remarkable stretch—waves peel for 200 to 400 meters in good conditions, with a rolling, hollow character on a sandy and rocky bottom. The break suits intermediate to advanced surfers and works best with east-southeast swell and westerly winds, breaking consistently at all tidal stages through autumn and winter when the spot is most active. The wave gets crowded when firing, and the rocky bottom and shark presence warrant respect.

The Crescent Head Malibu Classic, established in 1989 by local shaper and Malibu Club leader Robert Kennerson, grew from a small interclub event into one of Australia's enduring grassroots competitions. Now in its 36th year, the event draws 200+ competitors ranging from 11 to 82 years old competing in over 59 divisions, celebrating both classic Malibu boards and modern longboard variants. The spot received formal recognition as a National Surfing Reserve in 2008, cementing its cultural importance to Australian surfing.

Crescent Head occupies Killick Beach in the central part of town, with the point rolling down to Killick Creek's mouth. The main beach area offers straightforward access and parking, making it easier than some remote breaks. Several local surf schools operate here, and Port Macquarie Airport (roughly 45 minutes away) is the nearest major transport hub for visitors.
