More about Crescent Beach

Crescent Beach is a protected sandy beach break in the Strait of Juan de Fuca near Port Angeles, well-suited for beginners and intermediates. The wave needs a strong west or northwest swell to function, works best on mid-to-high tide, and comes alive with south-southwest offshore winds—without those offshores it can lose shape quickly. The beach flattens noticeably at dead high tide and closes out cleanly in swells above six feet, making the window for good, open-face waves relatively narrow.

January and winter months see the most consistent rideable conditions, though the spot remains finicky year-round. Rip currents can be significant and there is no lifeguard presence.

The beach is privately managed with a day-use fee for parking and facilities. Located roughly 30 minutes northwest of Port Angeles, it sits adjacent to Salt Creek Recreation Area. Access includes complimentary showers, board-rinse stations, and nearby equipment rentals.
