More about Crescent Bay
Crescent Bay is primarily a sandy beach break with rocky outcrops at the north and south points, located in a natural cove that provides some wind protection. The break produces fast, steep A-frame peaks with a hollow, wedgy character and short punchy rides—typically under 50 meters—that require quick bottom turns. It works best on low tide with a specific swell window of 260-280 degrees (WSW-WNW) and northeast offshore winds. At even modest sizes the shore break is powerful and the rip current threat is serious.
Parking is extremely limited on the neighborhood streets immediately above the beach, with heavy local enforcement. Access is via Crescent Bay Point Park and walking paths from Cliff Drive, which intersects the PCH at the north end of Laguna. Seal Rock sits about 120 yards offshore and draws marine life; lifeguards staff the beach seasonally in summer. Weekend crowds regularly reach 2,000-4,000 people, making the beach as much a destination for non-surfers as for the water.
