Coldingham Bay

Coldingham Bay is a sheltered beach break in a north-facing inlet, with waves peeling across both sand and rock outcrops—mainly sand with rocky outcrops at the southern end that become hazardous at high tide. Waves typically reach waist to double overhead in good conditions, breaking for around 50 meters; the break prefers northeastern swell with westerly offshore winds, though it works best at high tide. Rips are a consistent hazard that intensify during larger swells.

The bay has been surfed since the late 1960s as part of the pioneering East Coast Scotland wave scene around Edinburgh, alongside spots like Belhaven and Pease Bay. It developed a solid reputation as a sheltered, learner-friendly alternative to more exposed breaks, though it remains inconsistent overall—best swell conditions occur during winter, particularly in January, with favorable northeast swells arriving less frequently than at other Scottish locations.

Located just over three kilometers north of Eyemouth, the bay has good public access through free parking and a short steep path down to the beach. Facilities include seasonal summer lifeguards, toilets, a cafe, and an outdoor shower, plus disabled parking.
