More about Chorefto

Chorefto is an open sandy beach break on the Pelion Peninsula facing the Aegean, characterized by both left and right-hand waves. East-northeast swell with southwest wind provides the most favorable conditions, though short-period wind swells dominate and overall consistency is limited. The beach's direct exposure to the open sea means it regularly experiences strong northerly winds that can shape the break but also create choppy or cross-shore conditions; a semi-point break forms at the southern end under suitable swell angles. Difficulty appears suited to beginners and early intermediate surfers when conditions align.

Chorefto serves as a secondary option to the more established break at Agios Ioannis, located 4 kilometers to the north, surfed primarily when swell is too small for that primary site. The area around Chorefto has deep historical significance as a Byzantine port and 19th-century export hub for the Pelion region, though this maritime heritage is distinct from its modern surfing identity. Specific documentation of surf history, notable sessions, or surfers particularly associated with Chorefto is not readily available.

The beach extends approximately 2.5 kilometers as a long sandy expanse with unrestricted public access. During summer months (July–August), lifeguards enforce restrictions preventing surfing in the buoyed swimming area when waves exceed 1.5 meters or may close the beach entirely. Camping and basic facilities are available nearby, making it accessible for visiting surfers, though the consistently windy conditions and secondary status relative to nearby alternatives mean it attracts relatively few dedicated surfers compared to other Aegean breaks.
