More about Caswell Bay
Caswell Bay is a sandy beach break on the southeastern Gower Peninsula that produces a-frame peaks breaking in both directions. The spot is fairly exposed and maintains reasonable consistency through autumn, winter, and spring, though summer sees minimal swell. Waves work best during mid to high tide with southwesterly Atlantic swell and light northeasterly offshore winds, with rideable swell arriving around 2 feet. It's primarily beginner-friendly with crumbly, manageable conditions, though crowds from tourists and organized surf schools are a significant factor, and a river channel through the middle of the bay creates a rip hazard.
In 2020, the world's first purpose-built adaptive surf facility was established at Caswell Bay, reflecting its role as an established teaching spot. The bay gained broader recognition in 2006 when The Guardian named it among the UK's top 50 beaches. Today it hosts one of the country's few dedicated surf charities and is widely considered one of Swansea's most reliable waves.
Caswell Bay is located about 10–15 minutes' drive southwest from Swansea city center along the scenic coastal road toward the Mumbles. The beach is highly accessible with a carpark immediately behind and holds Blue Flag status. Facilities include seasonal lifeguard cover, public toilets, and a resident surf school. The beach is wheelchair accessible with adaptive equipment available.
