More about Castricum Aan Zee
Castricum Aan Zee is an A-frame beach break with beginner-friendly waves that typically range from 0.3 to 1.5 meters. Northwest swell generated by Atlantic low-pressure systems between Iceland and Norway provides the most consistent and substantial waves, sometimes producing fast, hollow rideable sections. Southwest swells also work, particularly during low tide. Conditions favor mid-tide and easterly winds that groom the face; strong westerly winds chop the water quickly. Groynes and a submerged shipwreck (particularly hazardous in the kite zone) require awareness, and currents can be significant.
Location access is straightforward with a large paid parking lot holding 1,500 spaces near the beach entrance, using dynamic pricing May through October. The beach is freely accessible year-round and features pavilions and water sports facilities during summer months. Alternative access is possible via the free Kustbus shuttle or bicycle, with free bike parking available.
