More about Caspar Beach

Caspar Beach is a sheltered sand and gravel beach break tucked into a cove that offers mellow, forgiving waves working best during winter swells from the northwest, particularly with easterly offshore winds. Waves break both left and right and are characterized by their gentle nature, allowing surfers to stand on the bottom on smaller days. The break requires significant swell size due to its protected position but rarely develops dangerous rip currents, making it a straightforward and safe environment for beginning surfers. Water temperature runs cold at around 15°C, requiring a 4/3mm or thicker wetsuit.

Access to Caspar Beach involves exiting Highway 1 onto Point Cabrillo Drive, roughly four miles north of Mendocino. Free but limited parking sits directly at the beach, and the nearby Caspar Beach RV Park across the road rents soft boards and other beach equipment, eliminating the need to bring your own gear. The beach opens from dawn to dusk year-round.
