More about Cabopino

Cabopino is an exposed sandbar beach break just east of Marbella, featuring both left and right-hand waves on a sandy bottom interspersed with rocks. The sandbar near the marina entrance suits beginners with consistent, manageable waves; more defined peaks further along the beach offer intermediate-level riding. It requires at least two feet of southeast, south, or southwest swell paired with northwest, north, or northeast winds—conditions that rely entirely on winter windswells (olas de viento) since the Mediterranean receives no Atlantic groundswells. All tides work here, and the break operates year-round.

Cabopino is well-established as one of Malaga's most popular surf zones, though no published history of when the spot was first surfed or details of early sessions are readily available. It likely saw use as Mediterranean surfing expanded from the early 1970s onward, when the sport took root along the Spanish coast.

The spot sits in Puerto Cabopino marina, less than ten miles east of central Marbella along the coast. Free parking is available in an unsurfaced car park near the beach entrance—arrive early during summer weekends. The marina backdrop includes restaurants and beach bars. Malaga airport lies roughly 30 kilometers to the southwest. Access is straightforward, either by car via the A-7 or N-340 highways or on foot from nearby accommodation.
