More about Cabo Colonet
Cabo Colonet is a long right point break extending from a dramatic headland about 60 nautical miles south of Ensenada, where clean groundswells compress into fast-moving rides that stretch 200 to 500 meters along the clifftop. The wave requires genuine size to produce consistent shape, typically performing best between six and twelve feet, and responds to southern, southwestern, and western swell angles. East-northeast offshore winds clean the face most effectively, and the break functions across all tidal stages, though it rarely builds until substantial swell arrives. The break's narrow swell window and seasonal dependence—strongest during winter months—keep consistency modest overall.
Rocky outcrops and submerged stones near the break present hazard during surf sessions and require careful navigation into and out of the lineup.
The cape's remote position and difficult access have kept crowds minimal throughout its history as a surf destination. The headland's high cliffs and northerly wind shelter make this an intermediate to advanced break, suitable primarily for surfers comfortable with point-break characteristics and experienced at reading the longer walls typical of extended rides.
