More about Brusand

Brusand is an open sand-bottom beach break where swells from the Atlantic encounter relatively shallow water without protection from a barrier reef or archipelago, creating waves suitable for a range of abilities. Summer offers smaller, more predictable waves with lighter winds, making it accessible to beginners, while autumn and winter bring more powerful Atlantic swell that appeals to intermediate and advanced surfers. The beach experiences strong undercurrents and rip currents that demand caution and respect, particularly in rougher conditions.

Surfing in the Jæren region, where Brusand sits, dates to 1982 when local pioneers first arrived in the lineup. While Brusand itself does not feature prominently in documented competition history, the broader Jæren coastline hosted the Eurosurf competition in 2017. The break has developed into a well-established destination within one of Norway's most consistent surf zones.

Brusand is accessed via road 44 south from Stavanger, with parking available near Ogna Camping followed by a short walk. The beach stretches as a long, wide expanse of white sand backed by distinctive dunes and river channels, with Norway's only natural lagoon nearby. A bird protection zone restricts surfing from October through March. The location sits at a marked geographical transition between the rocky Dalane landscape to the north and the flatter terrain of Jæren to the south, and this position facing open sea makes it consistently exposed to North Sea and Atlantic swells.
