More about Brookings Jetty

The jetty break at Brookings produces both left and right-hand peaks over a sandy bottom with distinctly different character depending on tide. High tide delivers mushier, more forgiving waves breaking close to shore and is when the spot works best for developing surfers. Low tide exposes the sand bottom, creating hollow, fast-breaking peaks that frequently close out before offering much rideable wall. The spot responds well to southwest swell combined with northeast winds, which are the most consistent conditions. Winter offers the best swell window, particularly in January, though northeast-facing rocks and the jetty's length substantially dampen north swell energy, keeping wave sizes more moderate than nearby breaks to the north.

Access is straightforward from Boat Basin Road south of town, leading to Sport Haven Beach at the Chetco River mouth. Free parking sits directly adjacent to a broad coarse-sand beach that stretches roughly a mile south from the jetty. The area serves as a working fishing and boat launch facility as well as a day-use recreation area.
