More about borsmose

Borsmose is a sand-bottomed wave that breaks both left and right, typically forming small, mellow conditions suitable for beginners. Swells that exceed 3 feet are rare; the spot works best on swell from the north, west, and southwest, paired with favorable wind directions from those same quarters. Winter water temperatures drop to around 4°C, making a wetsuit essential from November through March.

Surfing in Denmark as a whole only began in the mid-1980s, and records specific to Borsmose do not exist in public sources. The spot itself is not known as a competition venue or the home of any notable surfers—it remains a local beach break without recorded surf history or recognizable prestige within the Danish or international surfing community.

The beach is located near Oksbøl, north of Esbjerg, and offers straightforward access: visitors can drive directly onto the sand and park within 20 meters of the waterline. A camping facility operates on-site, and the wide beach with high dunes provides shelter from wind. The peak season for North Sea swell runs from September through February, with October and January seeing the most consistent wave activity.
