More about Bore
Bore is an exposed beach break along a 3-kilometer sandy shoreline with multiple sandbanks that create both left and right-hand peaks. It works well at all stages of the tide with west swell and east wind, though conditions are most consistent and clean during winter, particularly December. Summer brings smaller waves and less wind, making it accessible to beginners, while autumn and winter offer stronger conditions for experienced surfers. The sand bottom provides a forgiving learning environment.
Surfing in the Jæren region began in 1982, with the first pioneers including Roar Berge, Per Ståle Grude, and local legend Tore Skjæveland, all centering their early attempts at Bore. The beach has since become a focal point for Norwegian surfing and hosts the Norwegian Championship (NM i surf), organized by Jæren Surf and Bore Surfklubb. The competition draws participants from across the country following European and International Surfing Federation formats.
Bore sits near Kleppe in Rogaland, backed by a campsite and accommodations, making it accessible for visiting surfers. The break can become crowded during summer months when the gentler conditions attract school groups and tourists. Strong rip currents are a persistent hazard, and water temperatures are demanding—averaging around 15°C in summer but dropping near freezing in winter—requiring appropriate wetsuits year-round.
