More about Boquines
Boquines features a right-hander that runs 50–100 meters down the reef, with alternating steep sections and flatter pitching zones that make for playful carving runs. The left occasionally breaks fast and hollow near the natural pool at El Altillo but rarely draws surfers. Low tide becomes very shallow and tricky; mid tide offers the most forgiving window. The shallow reef demands awareness of sea urchins and sharp rocks, problems that compound at low tide and intensify when crowds show up for NNW swell with southerly wind. Winter produces the most consistent conditions, particularly from October onward.
Boquines sits in the municipality of Moya on Gran Canaria's north coast, just minutes from the town and about 15 kilometers from Las Palmas. The beach is accessible by car with ample parking available nearby, though getting into the water requires careful navigation past rocks and urchins. The Piscina Natural El Altillo—a sheltered natural pool—sits immediately adjacent to the break, making the area a focal point for the local north-coast community.
