More about Boilers

Boilers is a fast, hollow right-hand reef break that demands advanced technique and respect for shallow water. The wave barrels consistently over a exposed reef and holds shape best with a northwest swell and easterly wind. Low tide intensifies the break's power and reduces water coverage over the shallow bottom, requiring precise paddle timing. The peak rides fast and lines up for extended maneuvers before closing out on the shallow shelf.

The spot became established during the 1960s and 70s when European and Australian surfers traveling overland discovered the Taghazout region and shared findings through surf publications. Boilers developed alongside neighboring breaks like Anchor Point and Killer Point as a core destination for foreign adventurers seeking consistent, challenging reef waves. By the 1980s onward it had grown into a recognized proving ground for high-skill surfers, though it never hosted major competitions comparable to other Moroccan venues.

Access requires scrambling across rocks and timing a jump into the entry zone amid strong currents, with conditions most favorable during winter swells when the reef delivers its most consistent, well-shaped waves. The spot lies just south of Cape Ghir lighthouse and approximately 35 kilometers north of Agadir. A rusty ship boiler visible on the takeoff rocks gives the break its name and serves as a navigational landmark.
