More about Birdie beach
Birdie Beach is an exposed sand beach break with varied sandbank formations and gutters that create both left and right-hand peaks. Sections of reef underneath can contribute to wave shape when swell builds, allowing the break to hold solid size. The waves respond well to southeast swells combined with northwest winds, and low tide typically provides the cleanest shape. Relatively few surfers occupy the break even during favorable conditions, making it a quieter alternative to more popular Central Coast spots.
The beach lies within the Munmorah State Conservation Area, accessed via multiple walking tracks from a designated parking area near Freemans Wyong. The setting is isolated—backed by coastal heath with no nearby shops, cafes, or facilities beyond an unpatrolled beach and basic parking amenities. The shoreline features rock formations and a small lagoon, and the sandy profile shifts with conditions. Water temperatures range from around 17°C in winter to 25°C in summer, typically requiring a light suit most of the year.
